Day 6238 viewsThe Road to Hana! Based upon the recommendation of my parents, we took the Valley Isle Excursions tour van and are VERY glad we did. It's a VERY narrow road - with only room for one vehicle in many locations (beep your horn!) - and too much to see. Our driver was Maui native Kekoa (Kekeoa?) and had a great sense of humor and exceptional knowledge of the region. He also had a 1957 Type I (Bug) and drag raced a 600+hp Bug at one time so we had plenty to talk about.Oct 16, 2007

221 viewsSean Paul Kinney was one of the deckhands (and budding childrens author) on the snorkeling trip and was great company. We had some drinks at Cool Cats (spelling?) and then enjoyed dinner at the Aloha Mixed Plate restaurant. Here he is making recommendations. Another fine example of the great people we met during our visit.Oct 16, 2007

Captain Dave was great -- good (but sometimes corny) sense of humor, excellent seamanship and boat handling, and excellently choreographed music pertaining to the locations we visited.Oct 16, 2007

Day 4226 viewsSpent the day looking around. Went north to try some snorkeling. Just a scenery shot of the variety of greens of the land. Very different from Hwy 30. Just an example of the terrain differences that make Maui wonderful.Oct 16, 2007

253 viewsAt the place where we went to snorkel was a road-side vendor. Jasmine was the proprieter and had some nice souvenirs. We bought a bamboo wind chime and Honu (turtle) necklace. She was a kick and a fine example of the Hawai'ian friendliness. If you want handmade Hawaiian/Polynesian jewelry, baskets, arts & crafts then contact her at pualaniopikake@yahoo.com.Oct 16, 2007

245 viewsOur Lanai Dolphin Safari by Safari Boat Excursions. Pictures taken with a cheap-o, waterproof camera preloaded with 800 speed film...so it's a bit grainy...and explains the crappy underwater shots (and I used the flash). Here is our first stop, a WWII Liberty ship.Oct 16, 2007
