Under-tank hose merge

T-lines_003.jpg

This is nothing spectacular, just a minor way to clean the exterior of the engine a tiny bit by removing one of the hoses that come from the fuel tank. Using a 1/4" (6.3mm) barbed "T"-fitting you can simply merge the two lines as one.

AUTOart Motorcycle: Ducati

Duc_model_020.jpg

I bought myself an AUTOart Motorcycle 1:12 model of the Ducati Sport Classic 1000 monoposto. It is a really, really nice reproduction of the actual bike. The front and rear suspension is fully functional; it can steer; the kick stand and both foot pegs move up and down; the wheels rotate and even the chain moves with the rear wheel!

Oberon clutch slave

Oberon_008.jpg

Quick visual helper for replacing the stock clutch slave cylinder with an after-market unit, in this case, an Oberon 29mm unit. Be sure to use the supplied instructions that come with the clutch slave and reference the workshop manual as well. Do not use the extension that comes packaged with the Oberon unit as it's not needed for any of the Sport Classic models.

Paul Smith Ducati fork protectors

fork_protectors_006.jpg

Fork protectors do what they say, protect the lower portion of the front shocks from getting nicked up. They protect the exposed shaft on the inverted forks. A simple, fast install that only requires a 4mm Allen wrench and some blue Lok-tite.

LED front parking light

LED_parkinglight_013.jpg

The front parking light in my headlamp went out. Instead of replacing it with a standard BA9s incandescent bulb I decided to use an LED unit since the rear replacement worked so well. I got the BA9s-xHP9, 9 LED 360-degree "bulb" in amber from www.superbrightleds.com. Super simple install! The positive part of this is that the LED bulb only pulls 45-milliamps compared to the hungry 3-amp incandescent! This is a big difference if I should accidently lock the steering head and have the key in Park mode, where it leaves the front and rear parking lights illuminated. With LED technology my battery won't get as easily exhausted.

Making spark plug wires

new_spark_plugs_011.jpg

My front, right spark plug was leaking, thus causing a mis-fire, so instead of paying Ducati $99 per spark plug wire I decided to build my own from a standard kit. I found Taylor to have a reasonable price with low resistance yet still have good EMF and RFI suppression. Considering the stock plug wire had 4.88-Kohms of resistance, the new wires were about 700-ohms!!! That means more 'juice' to fire the plugs and reduce mis-fires, thus improving gas mileage and power. Though quite easy to do, you will need a crimping tool for the connectors.

Hypermotard oil line mod

hypermotard_oil_line_003.jpg

This is purely a cosmetic modification. Remove the oil output line (top oil line that feeds the oil cooler) and replace it with one from a Ducati Hypermotard, OEM part number is 87511361A. The new oil line is longer and thus allows you to route it on the same path as the oil return line. This helps to clean up the belt side of the motor, that's all.
